Hospitality Begins in the Kitchen

"Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." I Peter 4:9-10
What a great gathering and feast we had last night! There was certainly a creative display of the gift of cooking and the spirit of hospitality in each of the delicious food offerings. I like the way Peter links Christian hospitality with stewardship, especially since those two threads run through our discussions on food and faith. Our next potluck will not occur until the March 11 meeting, unless everyone decides they'd like to have them more often.
The food stories were very good, and I hope you will take the time to write them out in more detail for posting (anonymously, of course!) on this site, along with your recipes. Reflect more this week on our discussion of how deficient our current American "food culture" is compared to that of other countries such as France or Lebanon, or the regional culture we remember fondly from years past. Is it primarily a difference in the pace of our daily lives: fast vs. slow ?
What type of "food culture" would you like to experience in your daily life in Columbia?
You may find inspiration here or here.

I love this Biblical reference - don't know why I never really noticed it before. I wonder why we feel such a need to rank things - my group is better than your group, my gift is more valuable than your gift. The great thing about pot-luck dinners is their diversity. That's so important in food and friendship and something I need to make a conscious effort to cultivate.
